Where to begin with adult beginner dance classes?

So, you’ve heard that dance is a fantastic way to move your body and excite the mind at the same time, and you’re right!

Sometimes going to your first dance class in a while (or ever!) can be a bit daunting. At Impetus, we want to make sure you feel as comfortable as possible in your new dance class, and we always offer trials to ensure that you can try before you fall in love with it!

Chat with the studio teachers.
They are there to help you! There are lots of different styles of dance, and classes to choose from. Let the teacher know what you want to get out of your dance experience. Maybe you want to feel more in touch with your emotions, or maybe you want to dance out all that frustrated energy after a day at work, maybe you want a class where you don’t have to remember the routine from week to week. The staff will be able to point you in the direction of what class would most suit you. Book a trial here and try for yourself!

Bring a friend.
Who doesn’t love dancing with a friend? When trying something new, it can be a great idea to bring someone along to bounce off in class. If not, our dance students are all so inclusive, and would love to be your friend!

Do a trial.
Trials are the best insight into what a class is all about, rather than paying for the whole term straight away. Some people like to book multiple trials so they can see which class is right for them.

Wear something comfortable.
Dance classes have a lot of movement (I know, crazy right?). It is important to wear things that have a lot of stretch, and don’t restrict your movement in any way. Dancing in jeans could get a bit tricky! Try some leggings or bike shorts, and a tank top or t-shirt. Bring a jumper with you in the colder months, the studio can get chilly before you get moving!
Check out our awesome merch that is perfect to move in! Bring a named drink bottle, everyone gets a few water breaks in each class.
